The Human Centered Building Automation concept focuses on reducing the energy requirements of building technology without sacrificing comfort. With HCBA, we have a fast, and at the same time sustainable instrument to fight the energy and climate crisis. In the short term, energy consumption in the building sector can be reduced without sacrificing comfort for the user. In the medium term, the concept will help to further reduce energy-intensive building technology.

Theben sees itself as responsible

Since its inception, Theben AG has been dedicated to developing products that support the efficient use of energy. What began with the invention of the “ELPA” stairwell timer by company founder Paul Schwenk in 1921 has now developed into a wide range of products for the conscious use of energy as a resource. This is a topic that has taken on a new, almost existential urgency as a result of the dramatic development in gas and electricity prices. Paul Schwenk, great-grandson of the company's founder and CEO of Theben AG, believes that the building sector is primarily responsible for saving energy. Theben's answer to this challenge is Human Centered Building Automation.

The foundations of this success lie in the expertise of our employees whom we have to thank for the innovation and high quality of our products. Among them are bestsellers like the staircase time switch ELPA or the theben-timer, of which we have distributed 30 million of each over the decades. This also includes the invention of the Presence Detector in 1992 and the numerous rail-mounted devices in the top 2 range, with which Theben has become a market leader. In addition, Theben has set an example time and again in the area of KNX systems. However, first and foremost is the fact that Theben have as a consequence purposefully developed and expanded on their core competencies:

With a few exceptions, our entire product range is produced in Germany, at our headquarters in Haigerloch. During the manufacturing process itself, the 100% final inspection ensures that each of our products leaves our company in flawless conditions

Where does the name Theben come from?

Did you know that our actual calendar harks back to the Egyptian calendar? Three thousand five hundred years ago, day and night were measured with the help of sun dials and water clocks, and obelisks served as the sun dials of Egypt. Considering the magnitude of that innovation at that point in history and its continuing influence on the life of people to the present day, it becomes clear why company founder Paul Schwenk decided to name his company after an Egyptian city. Thebes was the capital of Old Egypt in the fertile valley of the Nile.
